Upper Peninsula – American Legion Auxiliary Volunteers from the 38 units in the Upper Peninsula will distribute the familiar red, handcrafted poppies, honoring America’s war dead, Thursday, May 19 through Saturday, May 21 at various locations.
Each poppy has been made by veterans in the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette as a supplement to the physical therapy program. The veterans are paid a small amount for each painstakingly made poppy, and for many, this is their only source of income.
All proceeds from the Poppy Days will go to programs for the rehabilitation and welfare of needy veterans and their families.
Wear a poppy and honor every American who has died for the American ideals of freedom, justice and equality. It’s a small symbol of a great sacrifice.
