Marquette – Storm Spotter Training will be offered on Monday, April 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Matthew Zika, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service Marquette office provides details on why storm spotters are vitally important to the weather warning process and how to become a weather spotter for the SKYWARN program of the National Weather Service.
This presentation covers many important aspects of weather reporting and safety such as thunderstorm ingredients, lightning and hail development, lightning safety, radar interpretation, tornado safety, National Weather Service severe weather criteria, what to report to the National Weather Service, how to make a good wind estimate, cloud formations, and how to receive weather information.
The program is open at no admission charge to anyone who wants to become a storm spotter and all weather enthusiasts. No registration is required.
