The Ishpeming Township Fire Department is excited to announce their first in-person and only second ever annual 5K run/walk this June 1st – hosted at Westwood High School! This event has become an important outreach and fundraising tool for the fire department – helping raise funds for community projects like Neighbour’s Night Out or a special Scholarship fund. All things for the community that they could not support with their budget otherwise, so this is a very good way to support the Fire Department and the community at the same time! The morning of the 5K, the Department will gather at their fire station to honor those that have went before, for fellowship, and a breakfast.
The 5K itself will be utilizing the track at Westwood High School for the start and finish of the 5K, and then using the West End Trails. The West End Trails was an idea sparked by Kurt Corcoran and his 7th grade students at Aspen Ridge School in October of 2018. They have created a network of multi purpose trails throughout the beautiful woodlands of the 90 acre school campus. These trails are currently maintained by middle school students at Aspen Ridge School.
Per Fire Chief Mann – “ Depending on the weather, there may be some “water features” added to the course, and there may or may not be some type of traveling trophy for the fastest first responder in the 5K.”
The 5k is scheduled for June 1st, 2025 at the Westwood High School. The ‘race’ starts at 1PM, with a kids fun run at 12:30. A single entry is $35, with a discount and special shirt for First Responders, and the kids run is free! There will also be other activities for the kids and community, as well as food vendors!
