The Annual Trapper’s Convention and Outdoor Expo is set to take place on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The event will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST on both days, offering a weekend filled with engaging activities and presentations.
Nine renowned outdoor experts will be on hand to provide demonstrations on trapping and hunting. Admission is $10 for both days, and children under 12 can enter for free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and attendees have the option to camp on the grounds.
The event will feature the popular Friday Night Fish Fry, showcasing locally caught fish. New this year is “The Kids Cave,” which will offer activities such as “Bandage a Bear,” “Pan for Gold,” “Build a Mink Box,” trapping demos, supervised free fishing, and archery. Additionally, there will be games, prizes, and raffles.
Attendees can look forward to meeting famous outdoor experts, enjoying vendor specials, and stocking up on supplies without dealing with shipping charges. Steve Kocsis, a longtime U.P. Trappers member, highlights the educational and ethical focus of the event, emphasizing legal, humane trapping practices.
One of the presenters, Rick Friedrich from Missouri, will share his extensive experience in bobcat trapping. With nearly five decades in the Missouri Trappers Association and active involvement at the national level, Friedrich is eager to engage with attendees and share his expertise.
