Houghton, Michigan –
In association with The Young Americans for Freedom chapter at Michigan Technological University, Yeonmi Park will be presenting a speech at the university’s Minerals and Materials Engineering Building, Room U115 on Thursday, March 14th @ 7:00 PM . She will also be providing a Q&A session for the audience afterwards.
You may be asking yourself, ‘Who is Yeonmi Park?’
Ms. Park is a North Korean refugee/defector turned human rights activist and author. She was born in North Korea, later fleeing the country at the young age of 13 years-old with her 16-year old sister. North Korea is a notoriously isolated, and tyrannical country, where the lives of its people are entirely dictated by its leadership. Which is why Yeonmi has written a memoir called “In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom”, and has become a human rights activist for citizens of North Korea and others around the world ever since. This is just a quick summary. We encourage you to research her experience, and watch her Ted Talk in order to gain some background before attending.
The event is an engaging opportunity to learn about her experience and perspective. It is free and open to the public, thanks to YAF’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise as part of the Preserving American Liberty & Freedom Lecture Series. Doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the speech begins at 7:00 PM.
When: March 14th @ 7:00 PM
Where: Michigan Technological University in the Minerals and Materials Engineering Building, Room U115
