Congressional Black Caucus PAC Endorses Gary Peters
The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) PAC endorsed Senator Gary Peters for
re-election, pointing to a consistent record of service and effective work
for Michiganders.
“Sen. Gary Peters has been an advocate for working families throughout his
career during his time in the House and Senate and in his personal life,”
said Yolonda Addison, Executive Director of the CBC PAC. “His dedication to
service whether that was making sure families have enough money to send
their children to college or joining the Navy Reserve, he continues to
prove his leadership. This is why the CBC PAC is proud to endorse Sen.
Peters in his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate. We know he will
continue to fight for the hardworking people of Michigan.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Congressional Black Caucus
PAC, which is an important partner in our work to ensure Michiganders have
a government that represents them and their interests,” said Gary Peters.
“Whether it’s protecting access to the ballot box, fighting for social and
environmental justice, expanding access to quality education, skilled trade
opportunities and apprenticeship programs to get good-paying jobs, or
ensuring health care is more affordable – I am always committed to forging
a more inclusive society for all Michiganders, and building an environment
where every American has an opportunity to fulfill their dreams.”
In the Senate, Gary has led and sponsored policies to promote job training
and help small businesses, reform the criminal justice system and to
address the water crisis in Flint. He’s working to expand opportunities for
career and technical education, and passed legislation to help small
businesses protect intellectual property. As an advocate for criminal
justice reform, Gary introduced the bipartisan National Criminal Justice
Commission Act which passed the Senate. He also co-sponsored the First Step
Act, which has since been signed into law and reforms federal prison
guidelines and seeks to reduce recidivism.
In the wake of the water crisis in Flint, which disproportionately impacted
African American Michiganders, Peters fought relentlessly for emergency
assistance and implemented legislative fixes for the lead crisis, as well
as, secured $100 million in emergency infrastructure for the city. He
authored legislation to require a study of the federal government’s efforts
in reducing lead exposure. Further, he worked to ensure that the children
of Flint have access to the wrap-around programs that they deserve.
