Marquette, MI – October 4, 2018 – A student organization at Northern Michigan University is hosting a “Medical Cannabis Symposium.” The event will cover a range of topics related to cannabis, including its chemistry and pharmacology, the social impact of legalization, Michigan laws and medical cannabis in K-12 schools. Presenters include professors, lawyers and industry experts.
NMU’s Cannabis Association for Responsible Education (CARE) is hosting the event in collaboration with MyCompassion, a non-profit agency that advocates for responsible uses of cannabis. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the program will run until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in the University Center Great Lakes Rooms. The event is free for NMU students and faculty members who register beforehand. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $20 per person for groups of six or more. “We are doing this because there is a fear around cannabis that a lot of people have,” said Moon, a junior medicinal plant chemistry major. “A lot of people are afraid of what they don’t really know about so we wanted to provide a place where people could learn more about cannabis. People are afraid to talk about things like religion, politics or even drugs, so this event is to get people talking about things that they normally wouldn’t talk about.”
