Ishpeming – Sandra Smetana, a specialist on Ishpeming history, will present a lyceum program on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. in the Children’s Room at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.

Her topic will be William G. Mather and his connections to Ishpeming, including Mather’s Grove and Cliffs Cottage. This program is geared toward older children and adults. Light refreshments will be served.

Negaunee – A Pampered For Pink sale will be held on Sunday, May 1 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center, 410 Jackson Street.

There will be cosmetics, jewelry, toys, food, tupperware and much more. Admission is only $1, which includes a door prize ticket.

Proceeds from the event will go to the “I.B.T.C” who will be attending the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on June 4 in Chicago.

Marquette – The Marquette Lions Club will host a free program on adjusting to disabilities on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Inspirational speaker, author and musician Geri Taeckens will share how she came to accept her gradual blindness and go on to celebrate being different.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation and there will also be a silent auction.

The film “The Miracle Worker,” the story of Helen Keller, will be shown after the refreshments. For more information, call 226-4063.

Calendar – Adopt-a-thon at UPAWS – Apr. 30 – May 1

Negaunee – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter will host a pet adopt-a-thon on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 from noon to 4 p.m. each day.

Adopters who bring in an item from the UPAWS wish list will receive a 25 percent discount off the adoption fee for any pet. UPAWS has a variety of pets in need of permanent homes. Specially trained staff and volunteers will be on hand to help adopters find a pet to match their personality and lifestyle.
