Calendar – Faith – Honoring Our Neighbors’ Faith – Jan. 10

Marquette – People of all faiths are invited to Messiah Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation, to a special adult forum on Sunday, January 10 at 10 a.m.

This hour will feature a discussion lead by retired NMU philosophy professor, Don Driesbach. Using the book, Honoring Our Neighbors’ Faith, he will look at the major religions in the world and some of the larger Christian denominations in North America.

Discussion will offer a look at history, size, demographic locations and the similarities and differences other denominations have with ELCA Lutherans. Each month, Driesbach will focus on a different faith tradition or denomination. For more information, call 225-1119 or visit marquettelutherans.org.

Discussion about a special benefit concert tomorrow night at the UpFront & Company in Marquette that will help her raise funds for the research of the cure for Crohns Disease and Colitis. She has had the disease for the past 20 years, but she has managed it and she has pledged to raise $4000 to help in the research efforts. US Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) – Legislative Health Care Update.

Discussion about her sentiments about the process of reforming the U-S health care system as well as her ideas as to what it is going to improve. She also gave us some of her thoughts about her colleague in the U-S House, Democratic Representative Bart Stupak of Menominee and his amendment concerning the funding of abortion in the reform package language. The controversy over the Stupak amendment has been a flashpoint in the nationwide dialog between pro-life and pro-choice advocates and has catapulted the Menominee Democrat into the national limelight over the last few weeks in a way never before seen during his 17 years in Congress.
