The presentation is part of Your Mind Matters, a community dialog on mental health issues sponsored by a coalition of community groups and the Peter White Public Library.

Marquette – Join the Tasty Reads, a book group for readers who love to cook, for a lunchtime book discussion of “Dinner With Dad: How I Found My Way Back to the Family Table” by Cameron Stracher on Monday, May 21 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Participants are invited enjoy sample recipes from the book and new members are always welcome.

Calendar – Theater – Auditions for Dandelion Cottage – May 21-22

Marquette – Lake Superior Theatre will hold a second set of auditions for “Dandelion Cottage” on Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22 from 6:30 8:30 p.m. both nights in Workshop Room #1 at the Peter White Public Library.

Be a part of bringing Marquette history to life in this production celebrating the anniversary of the cottage. All ages of men, women, boys and girls are needed. Cold readings are available at the auditions.

Calendar – Education – NCLL Nuclear Power Course – Registration Deadline – May 21

Marquette – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will offer the course “Nuclear Power: Basics and Reactors” on Thursday, May 24 at 3 p.m. in Room 101-B in the Superior Dome.

Nuclear chemist/engineer Martin Steindler will be the keynote speaker. This class is free for NCLL members and $5 for others.

Registration deadline is Monday, May 21. To register, call the NCLL office at 227-2979.

Calendar – Benefits/Fundraisers – Breakfast Buffet in Gwinn – May 20

Gwinn – The Men’s Auxiliary will sponsor a Breakfast Buffet on Sunday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gwinn VFW Post 5670.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.

Marquette, MI- August 25, 2011 – Northern Michigan University and over 9,000 students, faculty, and staff are ongoing participants in NMU’s TLC notebook initiative. Registered students at NMU that have paid their tuition are eligible for a notebook computer.  NMU is one of few universities that provide students, faculty, and staff with a laptop computer.

Laptop Distribution at The Superior Dome

Teaching, Learning, and Communication notebook initiative promises each member of this program a new ThinkPad or MacBook every two years.  Art and design majors receive the MacBook computers and is associated with an additional $150 fee persemester.  Along with the current model computer, walk-in, telephone, and e-mail help desk and software support is offered.   Damages are fixed after a $50 deductible is paid and theft is covered with a $500 stolen insurance fee.  Wired, wireless, and dial-in internet network connectivity is pre-configured into each individual laptop.

Computer Distribution is Thursday, August 25 through Friday, August 26 at the Superior Dome on the campus of Northern Michigan University.  For more information visit here.
