Third Annual Classic Cars on Third August 17

Marquette, MI – Preparation is underway for the third annual Classic Cars on Third Car Show on Saturday, August 17, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on North Third Street in Downtown Marquette, Michigan.

Classic cars will fill Third Street between Park Street and Michigan, with registration starting at 10:00 am next to Third Base Bar, 726 North Third Street. The event will be open to the public for viewing between through 4:00 pm, with awards taking place at 3:00 pm.

“We’re excited to host this car show on Third Street for the third year in a row,” said Tara Laase-McKinney, Marquette Downtown Development Authority Promotions and Events Coordinator. “We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from this event, there are a lot of people from across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin who are excited to head to Marquette for this show.”

All proceeds from Classic Cars on Third car show will benefit the Women’s Center, in remembrance of Jessica Drummond, a victim of domestic violence.

North Third Street from Michigan to Park Street, will be closed for this event from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Musical Mondays Featuring Robbie Fulks at Calumet Theatre August 19th

Calumet, MI – Musical Mondays presents Robbie Fulks on Monday, August 19th at 7:30 pm at the Calumet Theatre!

The Calumet Theatre’s annual Musical Mondays Series concludes with a very special reserved seating show starring Robbie Fulks on August 19th. A critically acclaimed Americana and Alternative Country sensation, Fulks has been hailed as a brilliant songwriter and musician. His most recent release, 2017’s Upland Stories earned year’s-best recognition from NPR and Rolling Stone among many others, and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album. An annual entertainment tradition returns to the historic Calumet Theatre on Saturday night, August 17th as the CLK Rotary Club presents The Tamburitzans! Since 1937, The Tamburitzans’ exciting, live stage show has thrilled audiences celebrating the traditions, music, and dance of countries from around the world. Its fun for young and old alike.

Celestial Musings at Peter White August 19th

Marquette, MI – Celebrate the cosmos with Celestial Musings! This event is for all ages with music, poetry, door prizes and refreshments and takes place on Monday, August 19th from 6:00-8:30 pm in the Peter White Library’s Community Room.

Bring a donation for the library or a non-perishable item for the food bank to receive a ticket for a door prize. Count von Count will lead a read-along of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. After the reading, there will be door prizes for children.

At 6:30 pm, local musician and piano teacher Bob Buchkoe will play music on the Library’s grand piano as well as his electronic keyboard. Pieces will include Debussy’s “Clair de Lune”, “Crumb’s Spiral Galaxy”, and “Vangelis’ theme from Cosmos”. At 7:00 pm, poets Martin Achat (Poet Laureate of the U.P.), Gail Mahan, Lynn Domina, and Beverly Matherne will share their celestial inspired work, followed by a musical performance by Terri Bocklund. Jane Piirto, Richard Rastall, and John Taylor will provide more poetry.
