The Art of Camping Workshop August 1st

Pine Ridge Apartment Building Fire

July 31, 2019

Marquette, MI – The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 316 Pine Street, (The Pine Ridge Apartment Building). The first arriving engine crew reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the North half of the roof of building. The first arriving officer on scene immediately called for a 3rd alarm to be struck to request additional Marquette City fire personnel to respond to the scene. A request was also made to have the Marquette Township Fire Department, and the Chocolay Township Fire Departments respond to the scene as well. Firefighters went to the roof of the building and encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions. The fire was brought under control approximately 1 hour after suppression efforts began. The entire building was evacuated and all residents were moved to temporary housing.

The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marquette Police Department, The Marquette Township Fire Department, The Chocolay Township Fire Department, The Marquette County Sheriffs Department, NMU Public Safety, Semco Gas Company, UP Health Systems Ambulance Crews, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Temporary Shelter For Pine Ridge Apartment Residents

Marquette, MI – On behalf of Marquette County Emergency Management, this Press Release is a notification to residents of Pine Ridge Apartments in Marquette, Michigan.

Due to the July 30, 2019 fire at Pine Ridge Apartments, a temporary shelter has been established for all residents at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome.

Marquette, MI – The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival & Marquette Regional History Center present: Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, a joint fundraiser.

Please join us on August 1st, 2019 at 7:30 pm. The doors open at 6:30 pm for drinks and music. The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival returns with Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, performed as a fully staged reading at the Marquette Regional History Center. Chekhov’s beloved and classic ‘slice of life’ play proves the long-standing formula of comedy equaling tragedy plus time. Chock full of sumptuous characters portrayed by local favorites, our story studies the frustrating facets of bitter dissatisfaction, the ridiculousness of the human spirit and the inevitable and ironic satire of it all. That’s The Seagull– that’s life! Your ticket includes a Russian quartet and the fully staged reading. There will be a cash bar serving Moscow Mules. This is bound to be an immersive night of theatre that you do not want to miss!

Cast includes Jessica “Red” Bays, Thomas Laitinen, John Sarkela, Alastar Dimitrie, Lilith Kontos, B.G Bradley, Christopher Scott Leith, Monet Chartier, Hanna Numinen, Shane Vincent and Chet DeFonso. Adaptation translated by Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival Executive Director Alastar Dimitrie.

Tickets are $10 for students, $12 for seniors and $20 for general admission and can be purchased at This is a fundraiser for two phenomenal non-profits. Proceeds benefit both the Marquette Regional History Center and Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival and go towards mounting a full production of The Seagull in the summer of 2020.
