Marquette, MI – Due to construction on Third St., access to Fire Station #1 will be closed to residents until further notice. Residents wishing to contact the fire department please call 906-225-8936 or email the department at mqtfiredept@marquettemi.gov. A press release will be sent out when construction is completed.

Bay Cliff Stroke Wellness Retreat

Big Bay, MI – Bay Cliff Health Camp will hold a Stroke Wellness Retreat September 12th – 16th, 2019.

Registration has not yet opened for this, which serves stroke survivors in the Upper Peninsula, but the event will be free to participants thanks to a Blue Cross Blue Shield grant.

Calumet Theatre 2019 Season Tickets On Sale May 1st

Calumet, MI – Ticket sales for the remainder of the Calumet Theatre’s sensational 2019 Season Schedule begin on May 1st for Calumet Theatre Members & May 15th for the General Public. Online ticket sales also begin on May 15th.

Twelve Theatre-sponsored performances will be available for ticket purchase. This includes Grammy-winning singer/songwriter legend Rodney Crowell, Kim Wilson & the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Lee Roy Parnell, & Southern Rock legends The Outlaws. League of Women Voters Monthly Meeting May 1st

Marquette, MI – The monthly meeting of the League of Women Voters of Michigan, Marquette County Member-At-Large State Unit, will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The LWV is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. MRHC presents Changing Hands: A Heritage Crafts Exhibit Opening May 1st

Marquette, MI – The Marquette Regional History Center presents Changing Hands: A Heritage Crafts Exhibit April 29 – September 26.

An Immigration Talk by Dan Truckey and Exhibit Opening Reception will take place on Wednesday, May 1st from 5:00-7:00 pm with the talk beginning at 5:30 pm. Dan Truckey will speak about the folk traditions brought to our region by various ethnic groups. Research Librarian Beth Gruber will present on genealogy sources available in our library. The opening is free to the public.

Along with a series of craft workshops throughout the year, this exhibit will showcase a variety of traditional crafts. Topics will include: hair art, Norwegian fiber arts, beading, miniatures, wood burning, bookbinding, paper cutting, Potawatomi carved wooden spoons, Finnish bird carving, Ojibway quill art, and seed saving. Learn more about the crafts of our immigrant, Victorian and Native American ancestors. It will include exquisite examples from the History Center’s permanent collection, the workshop instructors, and the community.
