Changing Hands: A Heritage Crafts Exhibit at the MRHC

Marquette, MI – The Marquette Regional History Center (MRHC) presents the Special Exhibit: Changing Hands–A Heritage Crafts Exhibit from April 29 – September 26.

An immigration talk by Dan Truckey and exhibit opening reception on will be on Wednesday, May 1st from 5:00-7:00 pm with the talk beginning at 5:30 pm. Dan Truckey will speak about the folk traditions brought to our region by various ethnic groups. Research Librarian Beth Gruber will present on genealogy sources available in our library. The opening is free to the public.

Along with a series of craft workshops throughout the year, this exhibit will showcase a variety of traditional crafts. Topics will include: hair art, Norwegian fiber arts, beading, miniatures, wood burning, bookbinding, paper cutting, Potawatomi carved wooden spoons, Finnish bird carving, Ojibway quill art, and seed saving. Learn more about the crafts of our immigrant, Victorian and Native American ancestors. Drive-In Themed Movie Night at the Library April 24th

Ishpeming, MI – The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will host their drive-in themed movie night on Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00 pm. The April movie is Borg vs McEnroe starring Shia LaBeouf.

The library provides free popcorn and boasts a high quality projector and surround sound.

Kindergarten Registration Make-Up Day April 24th

Marquette, MI – For those who missed kindergarten registration for 2019-2020, a make-up day will be held at Marquette Area Public Schools, Superintendent’s Office, 1201 West Fair Avenue on Wednesday, April 24 from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Please bring child’s certified birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency.

Children do not need to be present to register.

A kindergarten screening appointment for each child will be scheduled.

Kindergarten screenings will be held April 29 – May 3, 2019.

Chess Club at PWPL

Dance 4 Food 2019 Zumbathon April 24th

Marquette, MI – Northern Michigan University Recreation Sports and Marquette Ending Hunger present the Dance 4 Food 2019 Zumbathon® Charity Event at 8 pm on Wednesday, April 24 at the Vandament Arena. Those attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to local food pantries.

The event will feature dance club lighting, a concert-style sound system, giveaways and Zumba workout routines led by NMU mass communication and media production professor Mark Shevy. The event will also feature a performance by the NMU Hip Hop Dance Crew.
