Eagle Mine Hosts Community Forums Throughout Marquette County

Champion, MINovember 1, 2018 – Eagle Mine will host a series of community forums throughout Marquette County. The forums are an opportunity to learn more about the status of Eagle Mine and get an update on its operations.

Forums will be held on:
• Thursday, November 8, from 5:30-7 pm at the Humboldt Township Hall
• Friday, November 9, from 12-1 pm at Mt. Shasta in Michigamme
• Monday, November 12, from 12-1 pm at the Eagle Mine Information Center in Marquette
• Tuesday, November 13, from 5:30-7 pm at the Thunder Bay Inn in Big Bay

Governor Announces New Cyber Hub at NMU

October 31, 2018

Marquette, MIOctober 31, 2018 – A new cybersecurity training hub at Northern Michigan University will accelerate talent development for the high-demand cybersecurity industry, creating jobs in the Upper Peninsula and making U.P. residents and businesses less vulnerable to attacks by hackers. Gov. Rick Snyder and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) today announced plans to open the hub as part of the Michigan Cyber Range Network.

“There are more than 300,000 unfilled cyber jobs nationwide and 7,000 in Michigan,” said Steve VandenAvond, program manager and NMU vice president for Extended Learning and Community Engagement. “Northern is eager to lead the U.P. effort to close the talent gap in collaboration with education and industry partners. Shiras Board Donates Funds for Tennis Court Renovation

Public, Education, Governmental (PEG) Channel Survey Results

Negaunee, MIOctober 31, 2018 – Earlier this year, the City of Negaunee filed a complaint against Charter Communications following Charter’s discontinuation of the City’s Local Origination Channel (“LOC”), and refusal to provide Negaunee residents a Public, Education, Governmental (PEG) channel. The LOC provided programming such as broadcasts of City Council meetings, public service announcements, and school related events. A PEG channel would carry much of the same programming, but with more content, some of which will be produced by Negaunee students. Currently, there are no channels carrying this type of programming, nor does the City have the capability to provide “live” broadcasts of its Council meetings.
The City and Charter mediated their dispute, and ultimately agreed to work together toward a resolution. To that end, Charter indicated it would consider accommodating the City’s request for a PEG Channel, but requested additional information demonstrating community support for a PEG channel.… Read the rest
