Roasted Pork & Sauerkraut Dinner October 11

October 6, 2018

Marquette, MIOctober 6, 2018 – We are excited to announce the return of the formerly known GUMC (Grace United Methodist Church) Sauerkraut Supper! For over 30 years this supper has been a very well attended meal consisting of Roasted Pork, a special recipe of sauerkraut along with mashed potatoes/gravy, and all the trimmings. There will be raffle baskets and entertainment for the diner’s pleasure or for those who may need to wait for seating.

Due to situations beyond their control the GUMC (Grace United Methodist Church) was dissolved and with it the loss of this supper. Several years have gone by and through perseverance some members of the group, have realigned itself through The New Free Store in Harvey MI and teamed with the Marquette Lions Club to bring back the meal . This is an all volunteer operation and many hands make short the work, please call if there is anyone interested in helping.

The Masonic Temple has generously offered their facility to serve the community, as they do for so many others. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7:00pm on October 11th, with tickets of $15 available in advance @ 906-235-3553.

Michigan Tech Among Universities Working to Develop Flood Warning App

October 6, 2018

Marquette, MIOctober 6, 2018 – When flood waters rise, more data helps better predict and monitor changing conditions. And soon there will be an app for that.

Michigan Tech is one of five universities working together on a $1.5 million Smart and Connected Communities grant. The focus of the project–driven by a team of engineers, hydrologists and computer scientists–is to develop an integrated network that gathers, analyzes and alerts urban communities in danger of flooding. In a word, an app.

Learn more about how the team will not only develop device-based apps but also embed them in larger networks and outreach initiatives to improve flood monitoring and predictions.
