Emilia Amper Band – September 29

Marquette, MI – Emilia Amper is one of Sweden’s most sought after folk musicians, and she’ll be playing at NMU’s Forest Roberts Theatre on September 29.  Amper is a Swedish and American Grammy nominee, Norwegian Grammy winner, Artist of the Year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards, World champion on the nyckelharpa, awarded National fiddler of the realm and winner of the Nordic Composer’s award the NPU Prize. In her music, a deep knowledge and love for traditions meet an endless, open-minded exploration of the nyckelharpa’s possibilities. With her charisma, virtuosity and energy she moves with ease across stylistic boundaries and touches people in both small and big venues across the world.

The Emilia Amper Band’s appearance is part of a week-long residency by the group in Marquette and Alger County where they’ve been conducting workshops in local schools and at Northern Michigan University. … Read the rest

2018 WMH Sault International Festival of Races – September 29

Sault Ste. Marie, MI – Join up to 500 runners as part of the 9th Annual Sault International Festival of Races on Saturday, September 29, 2018! The Festival of Races provides runners with a unique opportunity to experience the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge like never before. You will also be able to run alongside the St. Mary’s River set against the backdrop of beautiful fall foliage and cool E.U.P. temperatures. Travel documents are not necessary. Yes, the Bridge Run (7.1 Miles) and Half Marathon traverse the International Bridge, however, we are not entering Canada. Our route turns around prior to passing through Canada Customs. Please note that no one is allowed on the Bridge without a runner’s bib. U.S and Canadian Customs Officials will be on hand.

Harvest and Haunt Fall Festival – September 29

Iron River, MI – After you’ve enjoyed the Apple Festival, head to the Klint Safford Memorial RV Park in downtown Iron River to enjoy an afternoon of free family fun! Tons of free games, crafts and activities for the kids, including free cotton candy and free popcorn. The kids can tour the “haunted” campground for trick-or-treating and show off their creative costumes to win prizes! Be sure to spot the creative scarecrows that the area businesses and clubs have displayed throughout the park! Mom and dad can enjoy the free live music with a glass of cold beer or wine and shop through the many vendor booths for unique crafts, various home-based businesses, and food vendors.
