Documentary, “Co-operatively Yours” – September 7

September 2, 2018

Marquette, MI – “Co-operatively Yours,” produced in conjunction with the Finnish American Heritage Center at Finlandia University, will be screened on September 7 at John X. Jamrich Hall on the campus of NMU. This documentary explores the history of the Finnish-American cooperative movement in North America, using historic photos, memories of the employees and members of the Co-op, and archival research to tell the story of the co-operative system the Finns brought to America when they immigrated over a century ago. Filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi explores this national movement by exemplifying the history of Settlers Co-op in Bruce Crossing, which is one of less than 10 remaining Finnish-founded co-operatives in the United States, and which celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2017. This showing is free and open to the public.
