HarborFest 2018 – August 24-26

Marquette, MI – Harborfest is one of the best free 2-day music festivals in the UP, but it’s so much more. It includes a beer and wine tent specializing in craft beers. It has food tents, Kids inflatable activities, a classic car & motorcycle show, a luge demonstration track to try, and the culmination of a fishing tournament with live dock side catch and release. It’s a family oriented event with a party atmosphere at night.

Music performances at HarborFest are a combination of local bands and major acts out of Chicago. Friday & Saturday HarborFest music has variety including country, folk, and blues but with a heavy emphasis on rock. Van Riper State Park – Kayaking 101 and 202 – August 25

Champion, MI – Venture to Van Riper State Park to learn the basics of kayaking from 1-3pm. We will talk about different types of kayaks as well as safety and techniques while kayaking. We will meet on the beach and once we have down the basics we will go for a paddle on Lake Michigamme. From 5-7pm, we will have a more advanced kayaking paddle for those who are comfortable with kayaking and just want to get out with a group and paddle, we will meet on the beach for these events. 12th Annual Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow – August 24-26

St. Ignace, MI – A Rendezvous at the Straits French Voyager Reenactment and Powwow, a family event celebrating the history of the St. Ignace area, will take place at the Father Marquette National Memorial, just off US-2 west of I-75 in St. Ignace. Admission is $4.00 for elders, children 5 and under are free, and $5.00 for everyone else. This is really two events in one — part French voyager re-enactment and part traditional Powwow. Visit the French encampments, watch demonstrations, visit vendors displaying authentic wares, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Native dancing and drumming ceremonies.
