111th Annual Central Mine Reunion Church Service – July 30

Central, MI – Central is essentially a Copper Country ghost town. One of the few remaining buildings is the Central Mine Methodist Church. A simple wood structure constructed by the miners in 1868 with materials donated by the mine owners. The once prosperous Central Copper Mine closed in 1898 and the population of miners and families moved on to other opportunities for work.

In 1907 several prominent men in the area developed an idea to hold a reunion/homecoming service in the old Central Church. All former residents and workers were invited and encouraged to bring food and spend time visiting. The event was so well received and successful that the decision was made to hold a second Reunion service the following year. Downtown Blueberry Festival, Marquette- July 27

Marquette, Mich.– The Downtown Blueberry Festival will take place this Friday, July 27, Downtown Marquette on Washington Street and Front Street. It’s from 10:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. and there will be tons of things to do with the family and tons of blueberries!

The 17th Annual Blueberry Festival will be bustling with sidewalk sales, food vendors, artists, demonstrations, pony rides, inflatable arcade games, and activities for children and families.

Downtown restaurants will satisfy your cravings for blueberry fare, from blueberry pizza to blueberry beer, while many downtown shops will offer “blue” specials. Local farmers will be on-hand throughout the day selling fresh produce, including mounds of plump blueberries. Music will fill the air as the live bands perform throughout the day!
