Upper Peninsula Solid Waste Forum – May 2

Marquette, Mich.05/01/208– The Upper Peninsula Solid Waste Forum will be taking place May 2nd, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Ramada Inn in Marquette. Registration is now open!

The Forum will focus on information about the latest issues involving solid waste management and recycling, and especially targeting issues of interest in the Upper Peninsula, with the goal of establishing best management practices, waste reuse and economic development.

Presentation topics include groundwater sampling best practices, asbestos disposal requirement at Type II landfills, MIOSHA health concerns at landfills, UP electronic recycling connection, passive and active landfill gas system design, Part 115 updates, leachate management at landfills, DEQ recycling updates, and Marquette County recycling update and DEQ scrap tire experience.

This event qualifies for 5 CEHs for Professional Engineers.

REST Training in Houghton- May 3, 4

Houghton, Mich. – U.P. Area Agency on Aging/UPCAP will offer REST Training on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Copper Country Mental Health Institute, 900 West Sharon Avenue in Houghton. Attendance both days are required in order to receive certification as a REST companion. Sign in 15 minutes prior to class time.

Rest is an educational course that provides respite training to adults and teens who want to offer care to those in need and provide assistance to their caregivers. As a REST companion (volunteer or paid), you give the gift of your time to provide a valuable service. As a REST trained companion/respite provider you will spend one-on-one time with an adult or senior, giving only as much time as you are willing and able to give.
