‘Manufactured Memories’ Presentation at NMU – April 17

Marquette, Mich.– NMU’s Criminal Justice Department will present “Manufactured Memories: Victimization Ahead,” this Tuesday, April 17, in room 109 of the Edgar L. Harden Learning Resources Center from 6:30- 8:00 p.m. A live stream will be available at https://nmu.zoom.us/j/960860645.

“Manufactured Memories: Victimization Ahead,” demonstrates how a therapist can create the memory of a crime in a client, resulting in wrongful convictions of an innocent person.

Senior criminal justice student, Joan Roberts, will present her independent research. Two victims of false memory-based accusations will also participate. Mark Pendergrast, author of “The Repressed Memory Epidemic” and “Memory Warp,” will chat briefly via interactive video in efforts to expose the false nature of the counseling techniques and failures in the criminal justice process.

NCLL Hosts Rowing Presentation, April 24- Registration Deadline, April 17

Marquette, Mich.– The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a presentation titled “All about Rowing in Marquette” at the Connection Center’s Upper Level, on 927 W. Fair, from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Daryl and Ginny Davis, founding coaches of NMU’s Crew Club and members of U.P. Rowing, will present about how competitive rowing came to the area and its opportunities for youth and adults. Attendees will be able to try the rowing motion on Concept2 Indoor Rower.

A Matter of Balance Class to be held again in Newberry, April 17

Newberry, Mich.– 04/17/2018- UPCAP/U.P. Area Agency on Aging will be offering an 8 week Matter of Balance class on Tuesdays from 1:00- 3:00 p.m. beginning on April 17th and ending June 5th, 2018. The class will be held at the Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Agency Senior Center, 207 Newberry Avenue, Newberry Mi.

A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
