Student Recital at NMU – April 10

Marquette, Mich.– Performances presented by students will take place in the Reynolds Recital Hall Tuesday, April 10, at 4:00 p.m.

These recitals include a variety of instrumental and vocal works presented by students of varying levels. Depending on the number of performers and length of repertoire, these recitals vary in length, with a maximum of about one hour.

This is a free event and the public is welcome.

Comedy Night at the Ore Dock Brewing Company – April 10

Marquette, Mich.–  Get ready to laugh until you burst at the seams with Chris Young, and featured Andy Beningo, at the Breakwall Comedy Night in the Ore Dock Brewery! It’s this Tuesday, April 10th, at 8:00 p.m.

Chris turns his real-life experiences into laughs to maintain a clean, but funny appearance. Chris’s luck (or lacks thereof) have led him to look at the world through a different set of glasses. Having once been called a pessimist by a fellow classmate “he replied simply, that he is not a pessimist but an optimist, as he believes things could not get any worse!”

Tasty Reads Book Group to Meet – April 10

Marquette, Mich. – Tasty Reads, the book group for those who love to cook, will meet to discuss “Vegan Soul Kitchen” by Bryant Terry on Tuesday, April 10 at noon in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Bryant Terry transforms soul food into healthy vegan fare. Natasha Lantz will be the guest speaker.

“Darkest Hour” Screening at the Library, BYO Dinner! – April 10

Marquette, Mich. – A BYO Dinner and Movie event will offer a screening of “Darkest Hour” on Tuesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Newly appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill must decide whether to fight or negotiate with Hitler. This 2017 history/drama is rated PG-13 and runs for 125 minutes. Bring your own soft drinks and dinner or snacks.

“Literacy Lives” Fundraiser – April 10

Marquette, Mi. – The Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan will be hosting a fundraising
event, “Literacy Lives” on Tuesday, April 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Barrel and Beam, 260 Northwoods Road in Marquette Township.

The event will raise funds to support literary initiatives in Marquette County. Tickets are $10 each and include tastings of Barrel and Beam’s barrel-aged beer. A bucket raffle and door prize will also
be available. Tickets to this event may be purchased at the Peter White Public Library, the U.P. Children’s Museum, and Dance of the Sun Day Spa.

Matinee Movie Series to Screen “Murder on the Orient Express” – April 10

Marquette, Mich. – The Matinee Movie Series will offer a screening of “Murder on the Orient Express” on Tuesday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

In 2017 release of this Agatha Christie classic, Hercule Poirot must solve a murder committed on a train. The film is rated PG-13 and runs for 116 minutes.

Free Income Tax Refund Assistance at NMU – April 10, 12

Marquette, Mich. – Northern Michigan University’s Beta Alpha Psi will offer free income tax return assistance to students and community members on Tuesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Trading Lab in the University Center at NMU.

Volunteers from NMU’s Beta Alpha Psi organization are certified through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
