SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: APPARATUS ON SCENE: The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an explosion at 800 N. Third Street, The “Border Grill Restaurant” Saturday at 1601 hrs.. As fire crews arrived on scene the building was being evacuated. The Border Grill staff explained that a small explosion had occurred in the back kitchen area on top of a stove. The buildings sprinkler system along with the stove’s Ansul system quickly extinguished the fire that occurred as a result of the explosion. Fire crews secured the building and assisted the Border Grill staff with removing the water from the building to help keep water damage to a minimum that was caused by the sprinkler operations.… Read the rest

Calendar – Education – MSHS 8th Grade Orientation – Feb. 21

Marquette – Marquette Senior High School Eighth Grade Orientation will be held on Wednesday, February 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. at the high school. High school students in grades 9 through 12 will have early dismissal at 10:45 a.m.

The Orientation will include a MSHS campus tour, a full menu lunch in the cafeteria, an overview of freshmen classes, and an introduction to organizations, activities, and athletics. The MSHS faculty and administration will serve as tour guides and class presenters. All students from Bothwell Middle School, Father Marquette School and any other interested current 8th grade students from the area are welcom.

Parents of 8th graders are welcome to a meeting on Wednesday, February 21 at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre at MSHS. Topics of discussion at the parent orientation include an overview of the graduation requirements and the academic programs provided, the Freshman Academy, an explanation of the Michigan Merit Curriculum and the Michigan Merit Exam and what that means to incoming freshman.… Read the rest
