Have breakfast with the 2018 Gladstone Braves High School Varsity & JV Baseball Teams.

Gladstone Middle School 300 S. 10th St. Gladstone

Menu: Fresh Scrambled Eggs, Ham, Sausage, Fried Potatoes, Pancakes, Biscuits & Gravy, Juice & Coffee.

There will be about 150 Raffle Prizes. The Raffles are outstanding!

Marquette – As part of its Building Love: Imagine series, “Native Rights and Broken Promises: Early Mining Issues” will be presented on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Native People’s law attorney Rich Vander Veen will discuss the case of Charlotte Kobogom vs. Jackson Iron Company. After signing a contract and promising Charlotte’s father that they would share the wealth from the iron ore he had found for them, the Jackson Iron Company reneged. Promises made, promises not kept! Not only will Rich present the details of the case, but he will also emphasize that tolerance is needed in America and promises need to be kept.

Marquette – UPCAP will be offering an 8 week “Matter of Balance” class on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon beginning on February 6 at the Lakeview Arena Citizens Forum, 401 E. Fair Avenue in Marquette.

A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.

Marquette – Northern Michigan University is among 13 Michigan colleges and universities participating in the 15th annual Gift of Life Michigan Campus Challenge, an organ and tissue donor drive competition. Students, professors, alumni and community members.

The NMU Volunteer Center will host on-campus registration tables on Tuesday, February 6 from 8:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. at the Jamrich Hall ticket booth. Additional registration opportunities will be offered on Monday, February 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the LRC circulation table; Tuesday, February 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wildcat Health and Wellness fair in the University Center; Thursday, February 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Gant/Spaulding lobby; and Tuesday, February 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the LRC circulation table.

New Data and Information

This month, you’ll notice a broader set of regions in our territory. In December, Northern Initiatives added management of Regional Revolving Loan Funds through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in Regions 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 – which means we are now administering loan funds that are attached to specific units of local government in those regions. View the MEDC map of regions here.  As we make loans, and those funds support job creation, the repaid funds can be available anywhere in that particular region. We are therefore playing an expanded role in more counties, and at this time the focus of our lending includes these funds, and funds originating through the Michigan Good Food Fund.

We think this will be interesting to monitor monthly and see how a big slice of urban Michigan looks in comparison to a big slice of rural Michigan.… Read the rest

Marquette – Men’s Morning of Reflection will be offered on Saturday, February 10 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette.

Men of all ages are encouraged to explore answers to these questions by attending a special Men’s Morning of Reflection. Presenter Dominick Albano will help participants uncover the four habits that every good man must possess and how they can activate those habits in their lives. Albano is an accomplished speaker and evangelist with the Dynamic Catholic Institute.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. There will be an opportunity to celebrate the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation or to talk or pray privately with Albano.
