Norway – The annual Wild Game Dinner will be held on Friday, January 19 beginning 5 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Norway.

The event features wildlife mounts of animals and fish, many taken by sportsmen in our local area. In addition, Trophies of Grace from Wisconsin will be displaying twenty five of the largest North American whitetail mounts.

The wild game dinner will be served buffet style and also includes hors d’oeuvres, salad bar, drinks and desserts. The featured speaker will be Adam (AJ) Dudek from the Appleton Alliance Church in Appleton, Wisconsin. Dudek is a professional guide for First Adventure Flyfishing in Colorado and Wisconsin and has experience in back country trips and hunting as well.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. to view wildlife displays and to share stories with other sportsmen and followed by dinner at 6 p.m.… Read the rest

Calendar – Fun – 2018 Heikki Lunta Festival – Jan. 19, 20

Negaunee – The Upper Peninsula Luge Club will host the 2018 Heikki Lunta Festival on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 in downtown Negaunee. Friday evening will begin the festival at 7 p.m. with a winter parade down Iron Street, followed by an opening ceremony at Breitung Park and live music at local establishments.

Saturday will be filled with a full schedule of events, starting at 8 a.m. to include something for everyone: Pannu Kakku breakfast, bake sale, display from the Finnish-American Heritage Center, guest speakers, an old school snowmobile show, ski jumping at Suicide Hill and luging open to public at Lucy Hill. A full line-up of Yooper Feats of Strength are also slated: Yooper Scoop Scramble, Trenary Toast Eating Contest, Ice Turkey Bowling, Big and Little Yooper Obstacle course races and new this year, Crapper Dash, Chook Chuck and Yooper-sized Foosball.… Read the rest

Marquette – A celebration of life and commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the death of Bishop Fredric Baraga will be held on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.

The celebration will begin on Friday with a Solemn Mass for the Dead at 5:30 p.m. Following the mass there will be a meal, and then a world premiere of an installment of “They Might Be Saints: Bishop Frederic Baraga” from EWTN featuring the life of Bishop Frederic Baraga. Michael O’Neill, “The Miracle Hunter,” will give a presentation following the documentary.

Saturday events will include Mass at 8 a.m. presentations, a snowshoe hike, meals, and interactive family activities throughout the day. For a complete schedule and registration information, go to

Ishpeming – UPAWS “Raise the Woof” Comedy Show Fundraiser will be held on Friday, January 20 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the River Rock Lanes and Banquet Center in Ishpeming.

Sit, stay, and laugh at the Raise the Woof Comedy Show Fundraiser to benefit the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. The event begins with a Taco/Nacho Bar Dinner from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The show begins at 8 p.m. with three outstanding comedians. There will be a candy bar for dessert.
