Students Select Wood as December 16th Commencement Speaker

December 14, 2017

He is the second recipient of the Students’ Choice Award, a recognition program that allows graduating students to nominate a faculty or staff member to serve as the featured speaker at the ceremony.

“I am incredibly honored that the invitation came from the students, from [student government president] Tristan Ruiz and the ASNMU,” Wood said. “Like everyone who was fortunate enough to attend last year’s December commencement, the first at which a faculty member was invited to serve as speaker, I was totally blown away with Dr. Marty Reinhardt’s address and his incredibly moving Anishinaabe drum circle. I can’t even begin to consider how to vie with such beauty in my address, so I plan to focus on my own personal and intellectual comfort zone.… Read the rest

UPHS Noquemanon Ski Marathon 2018 Race

December 14, 2017

The UPHS Noquemanon Ski Marathon will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary this January 26th – 28th, 2018, and there are a number of course changes that will both improve the skier experience and prepare the race for future growth.

To accommodate for more skiers in the starting waves the trail width for the first 3K has been increased to 30 feet and will utilize a portion of Al Quaal’s famed FIS and NCAA race course.

Major course improvement projects have also been completed. On a privately owned tract of land known as the “Granite Point Section” a beautiful new 3K route, made specifically for the Noquemanon, has been added to the 50K marathon course.… Read the rest
