Marquette – Marquette Maritime Museum will present “Pirates, Crooks and Killers: The Dark Side of Sailing the Great Lakes” by Fred Storehouse on Tuesday, December 12 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room at the Peter White Public Library.

The Great Lakes never had swashbuckling pirates like those who swept the Caribbean seas, but there were low-lifes willing to rob and pillage when the opportunity presented itself. Others were not above “moon cussing” or showing false lights to lure ships to wreck on inshore reefs where they pillaged the cargos and murdered the crews.

Everyone is welcome to the presentation to learn more of Great Lakes maritime history. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.… Read the rest

Blue Christmas Service December 10th

Marquette, Mich. – For many people, the approaching Christmas holiday does not bring with it joy and happiness.

For those struggling with loneliness and grief during the holiday season, Messiah Lutheran Church will hold a “Blue Christmas” service Sunday December 10 at 3 p.m.

A service of healing and hope, the scripture, music and meditations focus on the comfort God offers during dark times. Following the service there will be time for light refreshments and fellowship.
