Local farmers are invited to come enjoy a coffee and discuss local issues with other farmers and MSU Extension Staff. The topic for this meeting is weather variability and soil resilience. Project GREEN has funded this initiative.

Calendar – Benefits/Fundraisers – Benefit Concert/Silent Auction with Jeff Jennings and Friends – Nov. 4

Negaunee – A benefit concert with Jeff Jennings and Friends will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 7 p.m. in the Historic Vista Theatre in Negaunee.

A silent auction will also be held during this event with donations coming from local artists, vendors, and businesses. Bidding will begin at 6 p.m. and winners will be announced after the program.

The concert will give you a chance to see some local talent including The Lakeview Elementary Chorus, Shotgun Kelly, Payton Drew, Bobby Glenn Brown, Linda Stanaway, Marcia Nora Hicks, Deano and the Jello Shooters, and more!

Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 60+ and students K-12, and are available at Snowbound Books in Marquette, Midtown Bakery in Negaunee, and Rare Earth Goods in Ishpeming. Tickets will be $5 higher at the door.… Read the rest

Calendar – Dance – 1950’s Sock Hop at NMU – Nov. 4

Marquette – A 1950s Sock Hop will be hosted by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and the Swinging Cats NMU Swing Dance Club on Saturday, November 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center at Northern Michigan University.

The event will include a dance contest, instruction on a classic ‘50s dance stroll and live music by Drew and the Geezers. Admission is $1 for students and $5 for the general public. Attendees can purchase items from a burger and ice cream stand for an extra cost. Period dress is encouraged.

Jon Teichman will serve as the emcee. The sock hop is being held in conjunction with the “Cold War and the U.P.” exhibition at the Beaumier Center, located at the corner of Seventh Street and Lee Drive on campus. Admission to the exhibit is free and hours are 8 a.m.… Read the rest

Skandia – South County Fund Committee’s 6th Annual Turkey Dinner will be held on Saturday, November 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the West Branch Township Hall, 1016 County Road 545 North in Skandia.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 10, and free for children 5 and under. Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item for the Victory Lutheran Food Bank. Proceeds from the dinner will go to local youth activities and youth oriented community projects.

Calendar – Music – NMU Percussion Ensemble Fall Chamber Music Concert – Nov. 4

Marquette – The Northern Michigan University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of James A. Strain, will present its fall chamber music concert on Saturday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall at NMU.

The ensemble is composed of students who perform on various kinds of drums, vibes, xylophones, marimbas and timpani. The concert features a wide variety of musical styles. It will include Japanese taiko, hip-hop, a Chinese-inspired composition, an arrangement of an opera overture by Gioachino Rossini, music for hand clappers and two new pieces by American composers.

The Marquette Area Public Schools Percussion Ensemble will also perform one piece. There is no admission charge.… Read the rest
