October 22, 2017

Marquette – The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival will present “Titus Andronicus” on
Wednesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewery in Marquette.

The stakes are high in Shakespeare’s bloodiest revenge play, as staged thru the lenses of “contestants” in this game called Society. What do we stand for? Who do we stand with? How do we govern ourselves in a culture whose predilections for violence and domination steer our tactics?

In this hilarious, provoking and sometimes manically terrifying treatment of William Shakespeare’s “Titus Andronicus” are you just here for the party… or are you the next competitor? For more information, contact jamie@upshakes.org, call 734-578-2528. For tickets, go to www.upshakes.org/tickets.

An additional performance will be offered on October 29 at 7:30 p.m.… Read the rest

Attorney General Statement on Federal Ruling in U.P. Power Plant Dispute

October 22, 2017

LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette [October 19th] praised a ruling by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that could see up to $23 million dollars returned to ratepayers in the Upper Peninsula. FERC ruled that Wisconsin Electric Corporation’s collection of nearly $23 million was not just or reasonable, and that the company had altered the date of an invoice in calculating the payment. FERC’s ruling represents a nearly 50 percent reduction in WEC’s costs to run Presque Isle Power Plant.

The Midcontinent Independent System Operator, which oversees power transmission throughout a number of states, including Michigan, has 45 days to make a recommendation to FERC on how much money, if any, should be refunded.

“Today’s decision furthers the efforts to ensure that Upper Peninsula residents will have access to reliable and affordable energy for the future. I appreciate the work done by the Michigan Agency for Energy and others across state government, as well as Congressman Upton and former then-Congressman Dan Benishek to keep the lights on in the Upper Peninsula.”… Read the rest
