Marquette – A Candidate Forum for the Marquette City Commission will be held on Wednesday, October 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marquette City Commission Chambers at Marquette City Offices, 300 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette.

The six candidates running for the three open seats on the Marquette City Commission have been invited: Tom Baldini, Justin Brugman, Peter Frazier, Tony Ghiringhelli, Jermey Ottaway and Fred Stonehouse. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Delta County, Marquette County Unit. The forum will include opening statements, audience questions and closing statements. The moderator for the evening will be a League member. The public is invited to attend the forum and written audience questions will be collected and as time allows asked by the moderator during the forum.

Calendar – Films/Documentaries – Screening of “Life of Pi” at NMU – Oct. 18

Marquette – American contemporary artist Alexis Rockman will visit Northern Michigan University to participate in a series of October events titled “The Great Lakes Cycle: Art + Science with Alexis Rockman.”

A screening of the film Life of Pi” with an introduction by Rockman, will be offered on Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall at NMU.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum commissioned Rockman to create The Great Lakes Cycle, an exhibition that celebrates the natural majesty and global importance of the Great Lakes while exploring how they are threatened by factors such as climate change, globalization, invasive species, mass agriculture and urban sprawl. The centerpiece is a suite of five mural-sized paintings depicting separate themes that emerged during his research tour of the region. These are accompanied by several large-scale watercolors and monochromatic field drawings of plants and animals made from site-sourced organic material such as mud and leaves.… Read the rest

Join Attorney Richard VanderVeen and Judge Mike Anderegg as they recount three of the most interesting court cases held in Marquette County. You’ll hear about the actual trial which was the basis for the film “Anatomy of Murder”, Charlotte Kawbawgam vs. Jackson Iron Company and the Theodore Roosevelt vs. George Newett libel case. All three are fascinating stories you may never have heard.
