Calendar – Community – Annual Maintenance on Community Garden in Chocolay Township – Oct. 15

Harvey– Marquette Breakfast Rotary, along with the Club’s sponsored Interact and Rotaract youth clubs, will be doing annual maintenance and upgrades to the Community Garden on Sunday, October 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. behind Harvey Baptist Church on Silver Creek Road in Chocolay Township.

The garden is open to anyone in Marquette County. The cost of a garden bed ranges from $15 to $25. The Community garden models organic gardening practices such as no artificial pesticides or herbicides. In addition, one of the
beds in the garden is maintained to grow produce for local food pantries.

Gladstone – The Holy Family Parish Harvest Dinner and Bazaar will be held on Sunday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Family Parish Hall, 4011 County Roda 416 20th Road in Gladstone (Flat Rock).

The dinner will feature a chicken and ham dinner with dressing, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, rutabagas and pies. There will also be an adult silver dollar booth, bucket raffles with great prizes and a large raffle.

Marquette – The Northern Michigan University music department will present a screening of “Dido and Aeneas”, performed by the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet in London, on Sunday, October 15 at 5 p.m. at the Forest Roberts Theatre on the campus of NMU.

“Dido and Aeneas” is an opera that tells the tale of the queen of Carthage, Dido, and Aeneas, a Trojan refugee prince. When Aeneas and his crew become shipwrecked in Carthage, he and the queen fall in love. In the meantime, witches plot Dido’s destruction.

Marquette – The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival will present “Titus Andronicus” on
Sunday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewery in Marquette.

The stakes are high in Shakespeare’s bloodiest revenge play, as staged thru the lenses of “contestants” in this game called Society. What do we stand for? Who do we stand with? How do we govern ourselves in a culture whose predilections for violence and domination steer our tactics?
