Marquette – Seed Saving for Kids will be offered on Tuesday, October 3 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Children’s Room and Library Garden at the Peter White Public Library.

Join Abbey Palmer from MSU North Farm and learn how saving seeds from your favorite garden veggies can be easy. Learn the basics with a hands-on activity and take some seeds home for next year, or donate them to the Queen City Seed Library for your neighbors to use. The program will begin indoors before heading out to the garden. F

Marquette – The U.P. Regional Blood Center, a service of UPHSM, will hold a blood drive with the bloodmobile on Tuesday, October 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Marquette – The One Book One Community program, featuring the book “Wolf’s Mouth” by John Smolens, will offer a public book discussion on Tuesday, October 3 at 8:30 p.m. in the Shiras Room of Peter White Public Library.

“Wolf’s Mouth” by John Smolens, NMU professor emeritus, is a novel about a World War II Italian officer in a Prisoner of War camp in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the ruthless camp commandant and the officer’s adventures with an American woman after his escape to postwar Detroit.

Calendar – Education – NMU Regional Police Academy Informational Meetings – Oct. 3, 4

Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s Regional Police Academy will host informational meetings on Tuesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 4 at 5 p.m. in room 132 of the Jacobetti Complex.

Those interested in attending the academy from May-August 2018 are encouraged to attend one of the 45-minute sessions. The meetings will share Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and NMU requirements to attend the academy, an overview of the academy and an opportunity to ask questions.

Marquette – UPCAP’s Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program will offer a free “Welcome to Medicare” seminar on Tuesday, October 3 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Arena’s Citizen Forum Room, 401 E. Fair Avenue in Marquette.

To focus of the seminar is to help folks new to Medicare understand their benefits and choices. Registration is required by visiting www.upcap.org, or by dialing 2-1-1 and indicating your wish to register for the “Welcome to Medicare” event in Marquette.

There will be songs, rhymes, stories and fingerplays for babies not yet mobile and able to move away from their loving adult. Older siblings are asked NOT to attend. Adult social time and play time will be held after story time.
