Marquette – Explore Tech: Soil Engineering will be offered on Wednesday, September 27 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Families with kids ages 6 and up are invited to this awesome program with Hydro-geologist Dick Ziegler. Learn through demonstrations and interactive activities about environmental engineering, how water flows through different kinds of soils, what kind of soil is capable of supporting structures and more!

Ishpeming – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will offer Recreational Vehicle Seminars on Wednesday, October 4 and Thursday, October 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hilltop RV in Ishpeming.

Dave Korpi from Hilltop RV will provide information and answer questions about Recreational Vehicles to help with your purchase decision. After an introduction, attendees will have the opportunity to tour different models on their lot.

Marquette – Photographer and adventurer Denis Belliveau will be an “Explorer in Residence” Monday, September 25 through Friday, September 29 and will give a public presentation on Wednesday, September 27 from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall at Northern Michigan University.

A buffet of Central Asian desserts prepared by NMU chef Nathan Mileski will be available before the presentation from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Admission is free.

Belliveau traveled in the footsteps of Marco Polo from Italy to China and back. NMU Hosts UNITED Conference September 25-26

Northern Michigan University will hold its annual Uniting Neighbors in the Experience of Diversity (UNITED) Conference Sept. 25-26. UNITED is composed of a broad range of presentations and films. This year’s featured speakers and events will address such topics as avoiding biases, universal design, identity politics and more.

Joe Grimm will present “Breaking Down Biases One Question at a Time” from 1-2 p.m. His presentation teaches how to ask questions about others while avoiding stereotypes.
