Houghton – U.P. Area Agency on Aging/UPCAP will offer REST Training on Thursday, September 21 and Friday, September 22 from 1 to 5 p.m. with time built in for lunch and breaks, at the Copper Country Mental Health Institute, 900 West Sharon Avenue in Houghton. Attendance both days are required in order to receive certification as a REST companion. Sign in 15 minutes prior to class time.

Rest is an educational course that provides respite training to adults and teens who want to offer care to those in need and provide assistance to their caregivers. As a REST companion (volunteer or paid), you give the gift of your time to provide a valuable service. Marquette – The Marquette Regional History Center Special Exhibit space will host Great Girls in Michigan History from Wednesday, September 20 through Wednesday, October 18. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center, 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette.

This exhibit will be celebrating nine girls from across Michigan including a wrestler, an activist and a soldier who did great things before they turned twenty. Upper Peninsula girls Nancy Harkness Love, Copper Country aviator during World War II, and Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, Ojibwe creative writer and translator, are featured. This
traveling exhibit was created by the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
