Marquette – The Diabetes PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop, a six week class, will meet on Tuesdays beginning on September 12 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Lost Creek Community Building in Marquette.

The workshop helps people living with daily challenges of diabetes, learn skills and tools needed to improve their health and manage their symptoms. Subjects covered include: symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue and emotional problems, exercise, healthy eating, medications, and working with health care providers.

Marquette – National Alliance on Mental Illness Alger/Marquette (NAMI) will offer a 12 week “Family to Family” education course every Tuesday, beginning on September 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 129 W. Baraga Avenue in Marquette.

The course will cover a broad range of topics, including information about Schizophrenia, Mood Disorders (Bipolar Disorder and Major Depression), Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and PTSD. The course is free to the public. It is designed specifically for parents, siblings, spouses, teenage and adult children, significant others and friends of people with a mental illness.

Marquette – Explore Tech: Tool Library – MSU North Farm Program will be offered on Tuesday, September 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Business Reference Room of the Peter White Public Library.

All are invited to this free, special hands-on demonstration of the various gardening tools available to the community for checkout and use in your home gardens through the Michigan State University Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center-North Farm. Abbie Palmer, Education Coordinator will present the program. Tools will be available at the program for hands on experience.

Marquette – Northern Michigan University will host a community Law Enforcement Torch Run/Walk for Special Olympics on Tuesday, September 12. Participants will begin at the Superior Dome and finish at the NMU Jacobetti Complex. The walk begins at 5:30 p.m. and the run at 6 p.m.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraising effort for Special Olympics International. Michigan’s program generates financial support for more than 23,000 athletes who compete in Special Olympics in the state.
