Calendar – Community – Trash to Treasure Weekend in Marquette – Aug. 25-27

Marquette – Marquette City residents are invited to participate in the “Trash to Treasure Weekend” beginning on Friday, August 25 at 5 p.m. and ending on Sunday, August 27 at 5 p.m. throughout the city of Marquette.

The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for the recycling of reusable household items such as furniture, lamps, electronics and other working household items. The program is designed to increase awareness in recycling by creating an alternative means of reusing items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

Residents can place reusable/serviceable items in front of their house on the curb no earlier than 5 p.m. on Friday. Unclaimed items must be removed from the curb no later than 5 p.m. Sunday. College students are encouraged to participate in the treasure hunt, in that they may find items which will be useful to them in their dormitory or apartment.… Read the rest

Calendar – Sports – Meet the Modeltowners – Aug. 25

Gwinn – Meet the Modeltowners will be held on Friday, August 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gwinn High School.

This event, held just before the kick-off of the first varsity football game, will include tailgating, music, games, a bounce house, free hot dogs while supplies last, and lots of family fun. Help stuff the bus with school supplies and get free admission to the football game. All Gwinn students K through 12 will be admitted free to the game.

Calendar – Benefits/Fundraisers – Marquette West Rotary HarborFest – Aug. 25-26

Marquette – Marquette West Rotary HarborFest will be held Friday, August 25 from 4:45 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, August 26 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in downtown Marquette.

There will be live music both days. Friday night’s High-Energy Funk and Soul headliner “Bumpus” comes from Chicago and Saturday evening’s entertainment is America’s Best Led Zeppelin Tribute Band “Kashmir” that will rock the stage from 8:30 till 11 p.m.

The event will feature food both days. Kids of all ages are invited to play in the bouncy house, see vintage cars, boats, and canoes, and tour the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter. There’s a corn hole tournament on Saturday with practice on Friday night (available to adults over 21 ONLY).
