Inaugural Classic Cars on Third Car Show to be Held on Saturday, August 19

Preparation is underway for the first annual Classic Cars on Third Car Show on Saturday, August 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on North Third Street in Downtown Marquette, Michigan.

Classic cars will fill Third Street between Park Street and Ohio, with registration starting at 10:00 a.m. next to Third Base Bar, 726 North Third Street. The event will be open to the public for viewing between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with awards taking place at 3:30 p.m. First through third place will be granted in seventeen different categories, along with awards for best of show, people’s choice, and mayor’s choice.

“We’re excited to host a car show on Third Street,” said Tara Laase-McKinney, Marquette Downtown Development Authority Promotions, and Events Coordinator. “We’ve heard a lot of good things about this event; there are a lot of people from across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin who are excited to head to Marquette for this show.”

All proceeds from Classic Cars on Third car show will benefit the Women’s Center, in remembrance of Jessica Drummond, a victim of domestic violence.… Read the rest

Calendar – Benefits/Fundraisers – 45th Annual Cooks Corn Roast – Aug. 20

Cooks – The 45th Annual Cooks Corn Roast will be held on Sunday, August 20 from noon to 11 p.m. in Cooks.

There will be live music, a large auction, a bake sale, a cake walk, a beer tent, face painting, chicken poop bingo, bounce houses, and a chicken barbeque. All you can eat corn is $4.50 for adults, and free for children.
Six bikes will be given away and there will be a raffle with the grand prize of a 2017 Polaris Ranger.

Calendar – Bazaars/Craft Sales – 35th Annual Old Victoria Craft Fair – Aug. 20

Rockland – The 35th annual Old Victoria Craft Fair will be held on Sunday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Old Victoria, four miles outside Rockland on Victoria Dam Road in Ontonagon County.

Refreshments will be served all afternoon. Talented local artisans and crafters will be displaying their wares,
some with working displays to demonstrate their craft. Old-fashioned children’s games will be held at 1:30 p.m. with loads of fun to play and even better to watch. There will be sack races, egg and spoon challenges, and water races. Old Victoria’s famous cinnamon rolls, just dripping with sweet icing and served fresh from the wood stove will be available as well.

Old Victoria is a non-profit historical site, the remnants of a booming Copper Country community built in 1899. Take advantage of the open house to see first-hand what life in the wilds of Upper Peninsula was like when copper was king.… Read the rest
