Marquette – The Alzheimer’s Cafe Ice Cream Social will be held on Wednesday, August 9 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic Street in Marquette.

Alzheimer’s Cafe is a fun, safe place for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and their loved ones to have conversation, fellowship and meet others facing the disease. It is in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice Adult Day Center.

Calumet – The Movie Magic Film Series will present a screening of “Trolls” on Wednesday, August 9 at 7 p.m. at the Calumet Theatre, 340 Sixth Street in Calumet.

Admission is $1 per person with fresh popcorn and concessions for sale. Kids 13 and under have a chance to win prizes including a bike. Marquette – In celebration of National Hospitality Week, a block party to benefit Beacon House will be held on Wednesday, August 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beacon House on N. Third Street in Marquette.

Copper Crust Pizza will give free slices of pizza to any member of the community that stops by Beacon House for a short tour of the facility.

Marquette – The Marquette Interfaith Forum invites the public to a series of talks centered on several of the world’s religions, offering a presentation with an exploration on Christianity on Wednesday, August 9 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

The purpose is to increase awareness and appreciation for individual faiths and the common ground among all of the world’s major religions. Future presentations will take place on the second Wednesday of each month through October at the same time and location.… Read the rest

Marquette – The Annual Country Fair Picnic will be held on Wednesday, August 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Norlite Nursing Center, 701 Homestead in Marquette.

The residents at Norlite invite you come share some great fun with them. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bingo will be held at 1:30 p.m. and there will be other games and activities. Delicious snacks will be served after the games.

Marquette – Marquette County Solid Waste Authority will conduct a county-wide residential electronic waste recycling on Wednesday, August 9 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Marquette County Landfill, 600 County Road NP, off County Road 480 by Lindberg’s Gravel Pit in Marquette.

Items acceptable for the recycling include all computer related items, lap-tops and tablets, printers, scanners, fax machines, cell phones, DVD and CD players, televisions (CRT,flat screen, and floor models/consoles) and stereo equipment. No projection screen t.v.s will be accepted.

Marquette – The Marquette Regional History Center will offer a Historic Bus Tour on Wednesday, August 9 at 6 p.m. beginning at the Center on Spring Street in Marquette.

Take an entertaining, narrated journey through Marquette. The tour is commemorating World War I during the centennial of the Great War. The route takes you through the Historic District, down to the waterfront, and through the streets of Marquette. You will learn interesting historical facts about the Queen City of the North as you hear a general history narration throughout the journey from your tour guide. Through colorful characters that hop on the bus to share their stories, you will learn how the people of Marquette were affected by the Great War, and what everyday life was like here one hundred years ago.
