The Marquette Regional History Center presents 21 Pictures –An Outdoor Evening Program Featuring Great Historical Photos from the John M. Longyear Research Library

Bring your lawn chairs and libations for an evening under the stars as Jim Koski shares 21 of the most interesting photos he’s run across from the J.M. Longyear Research Library. Calumet – Pianist Bob Milne will be in concert on Monday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Calumet Theatre in Calumet.

Bob Milne will wow the audience with his ragtime, boogie-woogie, and turn of the century pieces. Called the best ragtime and boogie-woogie pianist in the world, Milne not only treats the audience to a remarkable musical performance but also adds to his playing, his humorous comments and insights on the history of the ragtime genre. His skills as a musician and as a showman are superb and never fail to entertain.

Skandia – Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program will offer a free “Medicare and You” seminar on Monday, August 7 beginning at 11 a.m. at Skandia Town Hall Senior Meal Site, 224 Kreiger Avenue in Skandia.

The seminar is targeted towards folks that will be eligible for Medicare sometime within the next six months. Learn the basics of Medicare, and discuss what folks should be thinking about when making decisions on their Medicare choices. Information about programs that may be available to help pay out-of-pocket Medicare costs will also be discussed.

Marquette – DocuMonday will offer a screening of “I Am Not Your Negro” on Monday, August 7 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

In 1979, James Baldwin wrote a letter describing the state of race relations in his final project, Remember This House, covering the lives and assassinations of three of his friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. When Baldwin died in 1987, he had only completed 30 pages of his manuscript. This documentary, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and directed by Raoul Peck, completes the book that Baldwin never finished. Winning the award for Best Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Dublin Film Critics Circle Award, the film runs for 1 hour 33 minutes and is rated PG-13.

Marquette – Inspired Words Open Mic will be offered on Monday, August 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center Workshop #3 on the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.

Authors, poets, songwriters and listeners are invited. Share some of your recent work, be inspired by other writers and get feedback from the listening audience. The presentations will not be judged. Presentations are open to all genres of writing as long as the material is suitable for all ages, unplugged and original work.
