Marquette – The first ever Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes Swim Clinic will be held on Friday, July 28 beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Marquette Senior High School pool. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The swim clinic will focus on freestyle and open water swimming techniques. Each participant will have in water training, led by NMU Swimming and Diving coaches Heidi Voight and Matt Williams. Dry land training will be provided by AdvantEdge. There will also be information on nutrition for athletes. Plus, participants will have a chance to hear a presentation from 3 time Olympic Swimmer, Gary Hall Jr.

Space will be limited. There will be three groups: Novice (ages 9-12) with at least one year of competitive swimming), Advanced (13-18), and Masters (18 +) The cost of the clinic is $30 and all proceeds will be going to the U.P.… Read the rest

Marquette – A “UP4Pride” Dance will be held on Friday, July 28 from 9 to midnight at Marquette Mountain on M553 in Marquette.

Marquette – Marquette City Fire Fighters “Fill the Boot” fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy will be held Friday, July 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. on the corner of Cleveland and McClellan Streets, and on Saturday, July 29 from noon to 4 p.m. on the corners of Pine Street and Fair Avenue, Third and Hewitt Streets, and Front and Washington Streets, all in Marquette.

For more than 60 years the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) have stood on the front lines for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), working together to free individuals, and the families who love them, from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life. The MDA’s spirited Fill the Boot campaign is an honored tradition in which thousands of dedicated firefighters hit the streets or storefronts asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to MDA, using their collective strength to help kids and adults live longer and grow stronger.… Read the rest

Munising – Boy Scout Camp Hiawatha’s 50 Year Anniversary Celebration will offer a tour of the camp on Friday, July 28 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The camp is at E6350 Doe Lake Road, Munising.

Marquette – The 16th Annual Blueberry Festival will be held on Friday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Marquette.

Washington and Front streets will be bustling with sidewalk sales, food vendors, artists, demonstrations, pony rides, inflatable arcade games, and activities for children and families. Downtown restaurants will offer blueberry fare, from blueberry pizza to blueberry beer, while many downtown shops offer will offer “blue” specials. There will also be live music and a youth talent show.
