Calendar – Community – Tours of New Residence Halls at NMU – July 26-27

Marquette – NMU Housing and Residence Life will offer tours of the new residence hall complex on Wednesday, July 26 and Thursday, July 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at The Woods on the campus of Northern Michigan University.

Tours will take about 15 minutes and will include model resident rooms, as well as study and lounge areas. Because these halls are still part of an active construction zone, tour participants are required to be wear close-toed shoes. NMU will provide the use of a hard hat, safety vest and safety glasses.

Marquette – The “Access for All” ADA Celebration, marking the 27th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities, will be held on Wednesday, July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Marquette Commons on South Third Street in downtown Marquette.

Calumet – The Movie Magic Film Series will present a screening of “Madagascar” on Wednesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. at the Calumet Theatre, 340 Sixth Street in Calumet.

Admission is $1 per person with fresh popcorn and concessions for sale. Kids 13 and under have a chance to win prizes including a bike. Marquette – Join the Children’s Museum and the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development for a free celebration of family and friends on Wednesday, July 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum, 123 W. Baraga Avenue in Marquette.

There will be fun birthday themed crafts and games, door prizes, ice cream sundaes, live music and the Gordon Family Fish Fry ($10 per person while supplies last) in the courtyard. A drawing for a playhouse will also be held.

Marquette – The Marquette Regional History Center will offer a Historic Bus Tour on Wednesday, July 26 at 6 p.m. beginning at the Center on Spring Street in Marquette.

Take an entertaining, narrated journey through Marquette. The tour is commemorating World War I during the centennial of the Great War. The route takes you through the Historic District, down to the waterfront, and through the streets of Marquette. You will learn interesting historical facts about the Queen City of the North as you hear a general history narration throughout the journey from your tour guide. Through colorful characters that hop on the bus to share their stories, you will learn how the people of Marquette were affected by the Great War, and what everyday life was like here one hundred years ago.
