Cooks – The 39th Annual Strawberry Festival will be held on Sunday, July 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at Cooks Congregational Church in Cooks.

Bill Kirchen in Concert in Gladstone on Saturday, July 8th at Rockin’ The Bay Music Festival

Gladstone, MI – With a career spanning four decades, the “Titan of the Telecaster” now calls Red House Records home. Rolling Stone said of Kirchen, “A musical treasure, a fantastic player, and in these roots-conscious times, very much a pioneer. Bill Kirchen is one of our best.” Kirchen’s career started in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the late 60s (graduated same class as Iggy Pop) and later in San Francisco with Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airman where they were part of the Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna scene. Kirchen’s trademark Telecaster licks drove their hit “Hot Rod Lincoln” into the Top 10 in 1972 and he is a virtual encyclopedia of rock and roll knowledge, a living guitar legend.

Kirchen’s recent Red House Records release, Transatlanticana, pairs him with British Pub rock originator Austin de Lone. The two have been friends and collaborators for over 40 years and they recorded these tracks in the UK and Texas (hence the title) with a top notch group of Texas and UK musicians.… Read the rest

Escanaba Vet Center hosting a BBQ and Open House on Friday, July 7th

IRON MOUNTAIN – The VA Vet Center in Escanaba, Michigan, will be hosting a summer barbecue and open house on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET. The Vet Center is located at 3500 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

The barbecue and open house is open to Veterans, their families, and the general public. There will also be music and a craft tent displaying the handiwork of Veterans and families of Veterans.

The Escanaba Vet Center offers free readjustment counseling services for combat Veterans of all era’s and their family members, along with any service members who experienced military sexual trauma. The Escanaba Vet Center also provides bereavement services and offers referral to the VA and other local agencies to any veteran in need of services.
