Calendar – Films/Documentaries – Matinee Movie Series to Screen “Lion” – May 11

Marquette – The Matinee Movie Series will offer a screening of “Lion” on Thursday, May 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

In this 2016 drama, a young Indian boy, separated from his family, takes an emotional journey from Calcutta to Australia and, as an adult, back to India in his search for them. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour 58 minutes. Matinee Movie welcomes the public to bring their own lunch and enjoy the movie in a dinner theater setting. Closed captioning will be on to ensure access for all.

Calendar – Community – Veteran Town Hall Meeting in Chassell – May 11

Chassell – Veterans and their families are invited to a Veteran Town Hall meeting on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at the VFW Post 6507 in Chassell.

Leaders from the VA Medical Center, Escanaba Vet Center, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, and County Veteran Service Officers will be on hand to provide a presentation on VA services, discuss updates to the Veterans Choice Program and other initiatives to increase access to VA healthcare, answer questions, and listen to Veterans’ comments and concerns.

Marquette – The World War I Remembered Series will offer a screening of “The Wipers Times” on Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Starring Ben Chaplin and Patrick FitzSymons, this WWI drama tells how Fred Roberts, with the help of Sergeant Harris, creates a satirical magazine after finding a working printing press in Ypres, Belgium. This 2013 TV film is rated TV-13 and runs 1 hour 32 minutes. You may bring your own meal to enjoy the movie in a dinner theater setting.

“World War I Remembered” is a community commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the U.P.’s involvement in World War I and is made possible in part by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
