Munising – Veterans and their families are invited to a Veteran Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at American Legion Post 131, 610 W. Munising Avenue in Munising.

Leaders from the VA Medical Center, Escanaba Vet Center, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, and County Veteran Service Officers will be on hand to provide a presentation on VA services, discuss updates to the Veterans Choice Program and other initiatives to increase access to VA healthcare, answer questions, and listen to Veterans’ comments and concerns.

In this video essay, Dr. Kevin McCauley, physician, addiction specialist, and recovering opioid addict, addresses the question of whether addiction is a really a disease. Considering his own treatment for opioid addiction and expert research on the effect opioids have on the brain, Dr. McCauley presents both sides of the issue, taking complex neuroscientific information and making it accessible to the general population. Marquette – “Trouble at the Cow Pound” will be presented on Wednesday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center, 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette.

Hear Bill Van Kosky tell about the unattended cows running the streets and grazing in the yards of Marquette homes. Imagine the havoc this created in the 1880s. The solution was a cow pound where troublemakers were rounded up and could only be released when a fine was paid. Hear the humorous, exciting and dramatic incidents that eventually led to a mob attack on the cow pound.
