Deadline Extended for 2017 Blueberry Festival Poster Contest Submissions – 5/9/17

Marquette, MIMay 1, 2017 – The Marquette Downtown Development Authority has extended the deadline for submissions for the 2017 Blueberry Festival Poster Contest to Tuesday, May 9. The DDA offices will be closed from May 1-5, so we will be unable to accept entries during this week.

The Marquette DDA invites residents of all ages and skill levels to submit original artwork for the 2017 Blueberry Festival Poster contest. The selected design will be reproduced as a full-color, limited edition poster. Original artwork in any medium is welcome but should not be larger than 11″ x 17″ and must not have been previously reproduced. New this year, no lettering or text will be allowed on the artwork, except for the artist’s signature, which should be no more than 1″ x 3″ in size.

The winning entry will be determined by a combined score based on an online vote open to the public and a panel of judges comprised of local artists, downtown business owners and public officials.… Read the rest

Rock – Mid Peninsula School Great Start Readiness Program Round Up will be held on Thursday, May 4 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Great Start Readiness Preschool Classroom at Mid Peninsula School in Rock.

To be registered for the Great Start Readiness Preschool Program, children need to be 4 years old by September 1st, 2017. Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and proof of income. This is an ongoing enrollment until all slots have been filled. There is only a limited number of available slots so register fast!

Marquette – A “World War I Remembered” Swing Dance, featuring the Westerly Winds Big Band, will be held on Thursday, May 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Patrons are not only encouraged to put on their dancing shoes, but to also don their Downton Abbey finest and embrace the culture of the WWI era. Refreshments will be served in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center.

“World War I Remembered” is a community commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the U.P.’s involvement in World War I and is made possible in part by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
