U.P. Environmental Risk Management Strategies Conference – 4/27/17

Marquette, MIApril 26, 2017 – The MDEQ Remediation and Redevelopment Division’s Upper Peninsula District is pleased to announce the upcoming Environmental Risk Management Strategies Conference. This one day conference on April 27, 2017 at the Ramada Inn in Marquette, will focus on state programs that address environmental cleanups, including recent and pending statutory amendments, strategies for management of different types of contaminants, and contaminated property redevelopment.

Presentations include informational sessions regarding new land and resource use restriction options for site closure, new strategies for addressing contaminant vapors, and requirements for managing non-aqueous phase liquids. Emergency management strategies and brownfield redevelopment tools will also be featured in a project scenario format.

This conference is intended for:

Children 2 to 10 years old are invited to enjoy stories, music, a craft and a snack.

Marquette – The City of Marquette, along with hundreds of communities nationwide, will March for the Climate on Saturday, April 29 beginning with an assembly at 9:45 a.m. at the Marquette Commons in downtown Marquette. The march will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

The Marquette Climate March will end with a party at the Commons from noon to 2 p.m. with food, music, and information on how our community is reacting and taking action in the face of a changing climate. This is a family friendly event to raise awareness about a global issue, and a call to action demanding our government in Washington pay attention. Please bring signs and noise makers!

Marquette – Spring Fling Shopping Spree Multi-Vendor Shopping Day, a fundraiser for the North Star Academy’s Robotics teams, will be held on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Star Academy, 3030 Wright Street in Marquette.

There will be crafters and vendors from many home-based businesses. There will also be a bake sale. Proceeds from the event will go to to pay the Robotics teams annual registration fees for tournaments and to purchase more equipment.

Negaunee – An Empty the Shelters Adoption Free Adoption Day, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, will be held on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter, 84 Snowfield Road in Negaunee Township.

All animals at the shelter, in foster homes, and at PetSmart are eligible for this no-fee adoption event. Bissell Pet Foundation will pay all adoption fees and thank families for choosing adoption with the gift of an AdoptBox.
