Ishpeming – The Westwood Improv Troupe, a division of the Westwood Shakespeare Company, will present “The Next Tree” on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Patriot Performing Arts Theatre at Westwood High School.

The show, a completely improvised acting exercise, pays tribute to a comic Shakespearean line in its title, and will feature talented Westwood students in grades 9-12.

Tickets for the performance are $5 at the high school office in advance, $10 at the door for adults, $8 for students at the door, and $5 at the door for any group of five or more. Children under 10 are admitted free.

Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s 2017 Diversity Common Reader selection is “Citizen: An American Lyric” by Claudia Rankine. Abigail Wyche will host a reading group titled “The Role of Micro and Macro Aggressions in Oppressions” on Thursday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. in Art and Design room 90 at Northern Michigan University.

The event is free and open to the public.

Hancock – UPCAP and U.P. Area Agency on Aging will be offering an 8 week “Matter of Balance” class on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. beginning on April 5 and ending on May 24 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 1000 Quincy Street inHancock.

A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.

Marquette – The musical version of “The Addams Family” will be performed Wednesday, April 5 through Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. each evening in Forest Roberts Theatre at Northern Michigan University. Matinee performances will be offered at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9.

In this musical comedy, Wednesday has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a respectable family. Gomez, her father who has never lied, must keep a secret about Wednesday’s relationship from his wife, Morticia. Chaos ensues as the Addams Family hosts a dinner for Wednesday’s normal boyfriend and his parents.
