Marquette – Registration for Superior Dental Day, for Marquette, Alger, and Baraga counties, will be held Monday, February 27 and Tuesday, February 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by calling 227-1628.

The event, to be held on Saturday, April 15 at the West Ishpeming Dental Clinic, will offer free oral health care services for uninsured and under insured adults from both Marquette and Baraga counties. Qualifying adults will receive free cleanings, fillings and extractions, as well as information about community resources, prevention and nutrition.

Adults can qualify to participate if they are at up to 250 percent of the federal poverty line. The mission of Dental Day is to restore dignity through volunteerism and caring by providing oral health services. … Read the rest

Calendar – Community – Police-Community Relations Forum – Feb. 27

Marquette – A Police-Community Relations Forum will be held on Monday, February 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 122 of the Jacobetti Complex at Northern Michigan University.

The forum is presented by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. In addition to the forum, a short survey for residents to provide feedback on how to advance police-community relations in their area is available until Monday, March 20, at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ExeDir2016-2.

Gov. Rick Snyder previously issued an executive order that MCOLES undertake a study and produce a public report by May 1 that addresses the topic of fostering public trust in law enforcement. The forum will allow residents to provide input. When completed, the report will offer a set of recommendations to advance the quality of police-community relationships, training and recruitment across the state. The goal is to determine how residents and law enforcement can work together to make local communities safe and secure.… Read the rest

Marquette – Chapter Book Club, for ages 8 to 12, will meet on Monday, February 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Youth Atrium of the Peter White Public Library.

Listen to a chapter a week, illustrate that chapter, and then create your own book of illustrations. This month will feature Adam Gidwitz’s “A Tale Dark and Grimm.”

Marquette – The Marquette Senior High School Varsity Dance Team will present “Not Just A Halftime Show” on Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marquette Senior High School gym.

All of the Basketball Season routines will be performed, as well as additional performances from Dawn Dott Dance, New Attitudes, Studio Dance Arts, Negaunee Dance Team, a special performance from the kids that attend our kids clinic, and more.

Negaunee – A free screening of “Capturing Grace”, a movie about dancing and Parkinson’s, will be offered on Monday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center, 410 Jackson Street in Negaunee.

“Capturing Grace”, an award winning film, showcases the legendary Mark Morris Dance Company and people with Parkinson’s and how they join forces to create a performance of a lifetime.

Marquette, MIFebruary 24, 2017 – Come out and support the Upeer Peninsula Rainbow Pride at the Yooper Drag Show Extravaganza.  The show takes place Saturday, February 25 at 8pm at the Recovery Room, 142 W.
