Marquette – Northern Michigan University will host its 17th annual Summer Employment Fair on Wednesday, February 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the University Center.

The Summer Employment Fair is an opportunity for companies and organizations to discuss summer jobs, internships and part-time jobs with NMU students and alumni.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their student ID and copies of their resume to the free event. Some employers scheduled to participate include Great Lakes Radio, Gordon Food Service, Home Builders Association of the Upper Peninsula, Invent@NMU, Marquette County Medical Care Facility and more.

Calendar – Food – NCLL “Journey Through Italy” Ethnic Dinner – Reservation Deadline – Feb. 8

Marquette – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host its “Journey through Italy” ethnic dinner on Thursday, February 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Jacobetti Complex at Northern Michigan University.

The event includes an appetizer buffet, a sit-down dinner at Chez Nous restaurant and desserts. NMU’s banquets and catering class taught by Deb Pearce are presenting this event.

Ishpeming – Bell Auxiliary will offer a Mackinac Island Fudge Sale on Wednesday, February 8 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the entrance of the UPHS Bell Clinic in Ishpeming.

There will be 40 flavors of fudge, salt water taffy, caramel corn, flavored popcorn, brittles and candy. The proceeds from the sale will go to Cancer Care of Marquette County. Bell Auxiliary will match funds raised. They will accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. … Read the rest

Marquette – The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve and the Community Forest Committee invite the community to celebrate the establishment of the Yellow Dog River Community Forest on Wednesday, February 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette.

The event is being held to mark the completion of the project that resulted in the permanent protection of 688 acres in northern Marquette County along the Yellow Dog River. The Yellow Dog River Community Forest is only 1
of 3 community forests in the state of Michigan at this time. The area is now open to the public to experience the natural beauty of the waterfalls and for silent sport recreation like hiking and skiing. Marquette – The Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society and The UP Land Conservancy will co-sponsor a screening of the documentary film “The Earth From Above” on Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
